The second edition of the French study and job fair concluded over the weekend, unlocking opportunities in the vibrant world of French education and employment.

Organised by Alliance Francaise de Kampala and partners, the event attracted participation of 24 French companies in Uganda, Ugandans and seven French universities.

The fair showcased a range of study programs, internships, and employment opportunities for Ugandans willing to work with French multinational companies.

Speaking at the event, the French Ambassador to Uganda, Xavier Sticker commended the program for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in areas of education and economy.

He noted that the participation of the seven French institutions presented a perfect opportunity for facilitating mobility between Ugandans studying in France and students studying French in Uganda.

“The seven French universities and the higher education institutions that have come this week are here today. But it means that for Ugandan students, job applicants, people who are interested in giving an international twist into their career, today is a day of opportunity,” the ambassador said.

“Today is actually the culmination of that involvement of French companies, French universities and their aspiration to strengthen their connections with Uganda and to build between our two countries.”

Thomas Pelletier, president of the French- Kampala Business Club, observed that during the event, they guided participants especially students on gaining valuable knowledge about the skill requirements and recruitment processes of French and Ugandan companies.

French Kampala Club represents 60 companies, of which half are French multinationals, and the other half are Ugandan.

“The key message today is that French companies are recruiting. We keep on recruiting, and today, there are many, many job opportunities. We have listed them, the students have access to them, and if they want to apply, it's the day they can apply for those jobs.” Pelletier said.

He added that they offered internship opportunities and graduate training programs for Ugandans especially those with no or very little work experience.

Oumou Diakite, the deputy head of Campus France, who had also led the delegation of the seven French universities that came to Uganda, underscored the opportunities that come with studying in France even when one cannot speak French.

She highlighted that there are more than 1,700 programs in France totally taught in English for Ugandans interested.

“As I said before, there's a bridge between studying and being employed. So if you have a French degree, you might be able and have more opportunity to work in a French company that is settled in Uganda,” Diakite said.

According to her, they propose several programs in more than 74 universities in France, 200 business schools, 200 engineering schools, and more than 3000 specialized schools.

She added that they offer and propose a range of 35,000 programs in French and in English.
